Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco City Tour and 4 Inca Ruins

Upon arrival at the airport, our host will warmly welcome you and assist with your transfer to the hotel, including check-in procedures. The remainder of the morning is at leisure to rest and acclimatize to the altitude.

In the afternoon at 1:00 p.m., we begin our exploration of Cusco, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the Western Hemisphere and the former capital of the Inca Empire. Cusco is a fascinating blend of impressive Inca stonework and elegant colonial architecture.

During the tour, we will visit Cusco Cathedral, located in the Main Square, and the magnificent Qorikancha (Temple of the Sun), once the most sacred temple of the Inca civilization.

We will then travel to the nearby archaeological sites surrounding the city: Q’enqo, Puca Pucara, Tambomachay, and the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuamán.

Return to your hotel.
Overnight in Cusco.

Day 2: Sacred Valley of the Incas – Ollantaytambo

At 8:00 a.m. we start our day going to one of the most famous natural and archaeological attractions in Cusco, the Sacred Valley of the Incas. After 32 kilometers, we arrive at the colourful Andean market of Pisac. First, we visit the Inca ruins located on the Urubamba mountain range and then we will have enough time to explore the typical market at Pisac.

After an enjoyable lunch in a local restaurant, we continue 45 kilometers along the Sacred Valley to the matchless Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo. After exploring this amazing Inca building we return to our hotel.

Overnight in Ollantaytambo. (B, L)

Day 3: Ollantaytambo – Machupicchu – Cusco

Breakfast at your hotel. Early in the morning, you will board the train for a scenic journey through the Sacred Valley of the Incas to Machu Picchu. Located 112 km northwest of Cusco at over 2,400 meters above sea level, Machupicchu remained hidden among mountains and semi-tropical jungle for nearly 400 years until its rediscovery by Hiram Bingham in 1911.

Upon arrival, you will enjoy a guided tour of approximately three hours, exploring the most important sectors of this extraordinary Inca citadel. After the guided visit, you will have free time to explore the ruins at your own pace.

If you still have energy, you may choose to climb Huayna Picchu, the iconic mountain rising behind the citadel, which offers spectacular panoramic views. Please note that permits are limited and must be requested at the time of booking to secure entrance in advance.

After your visit, you will take the bus down to Aguas Calientes for lunch. Late in the afternoon, you will board the train back to Cusco, where we will transfer you to your hotel.

Overnight in Cusco. (B)

Day 4: Cusco – Rainbow Mountain

We pick you up from your hotel at 4:00 a.m. and travel for approximately two hours to the community of Cusipata, where you enjoy breakfast. Afterward, we continue for about one more hour to Phullawasipata (4,626 m), the starting point of our hike.

From here, we begin a gradual uphill walk of approximately 1½ hours. Along the way, you will enjoy breathtaking high-Andean landscapes, towering mountains, and views of local communities dressed in traditional clothing going about their daily activities. You will likely see herds of llamas, alpacas, sheep, and horses, and with a bit of luck, you may even spot Peru’s national animal, the graceful vicuna.

Upon reaching the summit of Vinicunca (5,100 m), also known as Rainbow Mountain, you will have free time to rest, take photos, and admire the extraordinary natural colors of the mountain range.

After enjoying the summit, we descend via an alternative route known as the Red Valley, named for the striking red tones of its mountains. This path is less crowded and offers a completely different and more peaceful experience. We will hike downhill for approximately two hours back to Phullawasipata, where our transportation will be waiting.

We then return to Cusipata for lunch before driving back to Cusco, arriving at approximately 5:00 p.m.
