This unforgettable and less-known hike combines amazing mountain scenery, glacier lagoons, valley cloud-forest and Quechua communities famous for their textiles. You will have the opportunity to see thatched roof stone houses surrounded by herds of llamas and alpacas. The trek itself is rated moderate, similar to the Inca Trail with two passes over 4800masl. Therefore, it is important that you to be well acclimatized to the altitude.

When permits for the classic inca trail trek is booked or you are looking for a trek with less people and amazing views of snow capped mountains, this is a great trek, and you have the opportunity to visit Machupicchu on day 4th. This trekking is the nicest and the challenging trek and it is not that crowded yed. We start in the sacred valley of the inkas, pumahuanca valley, we go over the puma pass, cuncani Andean community and the hot spring of lares. we will pass by the small Andean villages, green valleys, lakes, ancient inka trail, colorful dressed local people and we will see an impressive flocks of llamas and alpacas and snow capped mountains over 6000 meters also we will see the ancestral farm customs, Andean traditions and amazing textiles and finally we take the bus to the ancient inka town of ollantaytambo to continue by train to Machupicchu the legendary lost city of the incas.

 

Day 1: Cusco – Urubamba – Pumahuanca – Pacchayoc-Cuyoc campsite

We will pick you up at 6 am from your hotel and then we will drive the bus through the Sacred Valley of the inkas, passing by Chincheros and stopping in the town of Urubamba, (2,800 masl) for a brief toilet break and the chance to buy some snacks, water, etc, after this stop we continue for 30 minutes to the beginning of the pumahuanca valley, land of the famous white corn and the Chicha, the Inca´s favorite corn beer. This is the place where we will meet our horses and muleteers, (arrieros), and trek staff. All of our required equipment will be carried by mules and horses. We start our hike through this beautiful polylepis qeuñas forest in the Andes with a gentle switchback ascent on a gravel path from 2,800 m to 3,600 m with stunning views of the surrounding valley and mountains. 4 hours walk to the Inca complex of Inca–Kancha where we will have a guided visit, and where we will have our first lunch. Our expert cook will prepare delicious Peruvian dishes. After the lunch we will have a siesta for 30 minutes, Continuing afterward along the way you will be able to observe native trees of qeuñas, eucaliptus, then we reach a small Andean community of Pacchayoc, spectacular mountain landscapes, flocks of llamas, alpacas, sheeps and goats. Finally 2 hours later we will reach to Cuyoc, our first campsite at 4,000 masl.

Day 2: Cuyoc – Pumahuanca Pass – Cuncani Campsite

Today we will wake you up at 06:00 am with wake up tea, then we will enjoy our first breakfast on this adventure trek with quinua panqueques. At 07:00 am we start our trek with scenic views of Chicon, San Juan and Veronica snow capped mountains. Surrounded by a native unca forest for a challenging 5 hours uphill along a dirt road with some stone steps, in some parts there are zig zag switchbacks toward the Pumahuanca Pass located at 4,580 masl, on the top we will appreciate sacred Apachetas which is a series of piles of stones, made by pilgrims as a symbol of gratitude and respect to the Apus, Once we get to the pass we will leave some offerins with coca leaves to this sacred place. Enjoy the amazing views of part of Moray, Maras town and the salt mines. Then we are ready to descend for an hour along the stone road with a nice view on both sides, arriving to the lunch place near impressive lakes. After our lunch we walk for 2 more hours mainly dowhill and on the way we will meet some local farmers in colorful costumes as is traditional with all villages around Lares valley with Amazing landscapes, views, mountains, flocks of llamas and alpacas. Finally we will arrive in our second campsite at Cuncani community, located at 3,750 masl where we will enjoy Dinner and Camp. Cuncani is also very famous for their textiles produced with ancestral weaving techniques. Meals:B,L,D snacks.

Day 3: Cuncani – Lares Hot Springs- Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

Today is the easiest day because we just walk 4 hours. We will wake you up at 6:30 am and breakfast at 7:00 am. In this comunity we can visit the house of our muleteer or arriero who will share with us how they live in a simple way in deep connection with nature, preserving traditional customs in agriculture, weavings, showing their textile skills from generations, and using medicinal plants etc. Then 4 hours of easy walking downhill we reach the Lares hot springs, we can take advantage to enjoy this medicinal hot springs, After our lunch, we will drive the bus for about 4 hours to Ollantaytambo town where we will take the train to Aguas calientes town Overnight included Dinner.

Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu– Cusco

Today we will start very early 04:30 am wake up call, 5;00 am breakfast and 05:30 am we take the bus to Machupicchu arriving around 06.00am.
Today is the most important day and we will go in Machupicchu as aerly as we can, first we will enjoy the sunrice and we will have the guided tour for about 3 hours. Enjoy the early tour of Machupicchu with your guide who will expline the mysteries of this magical site, Your guide will spend about 3 hours explaining about the amazing temples and special sectors of Machupicchu.  then you have free time to take your photos. or to climb Huaynapicchu or Machupicchu mountain if it is included. finally you will take the bus down to Agus calientes town to have your lunch before you take the train back to ollantaytambo and to cusco city

BOOKING DEPOSIT REQUIRED.- Online payments.

3.- For group bookings, transfer to our bank in Peru, US$ 300 per person, or pay with the methods mentioned above.

FINAL PAYMENT: We require the remaining balance payment of your tour 1 month before of your tour start, paying online with your reservation code in our website in How to pay OR pay in US$ cash or with a card in our office in Cusco at your arrival.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

1.- You must inform us of any medical problems or allergies. You need to be in good physical health and if your health is questionable, then you should consult a doctor. If you are over the age of 70, then you will need to present us with a current medical certificate as Lares trek goes to 4850 masl. (it is highly recommended that you have to be in cusco 2 or 3 days in advance to acclimatize or to use to the altitude).

2.- You must tell to your tour guide if you wish to leave the group or the camping area for independent walks. If you are having any problems with the service you have to informtom the tour guide in that moment so he can solve any problems as soon as possible.

3.- If you have vertigo you do not want to climb Huayna Picchu for any reason then indicate NO in the reservation format and write this in the comments section. (If you want to climb up to machupicchu mountain or waynapicchu mountain you have to book 4 or 5 mouths in advance because the passes are sold out, this is alternative walk.

4.- You must carry your original passport and valid student card on the trail.

5.- The student has US$20 discount for use of student cards is regulated by the park itself, not our company. All student cards are validated by the control of the park

6.- We include in this trek 8 kilos from each passenger for the horses, we will provide you a duffle bag to put your sleeping bag and personal clothes and mattress.

7.- Please hotel in aguas calientes town is 3 star hotel. If you are wanting alternative accommodation this can be organised, these are some upgrade options and the corresponding supplemental cost based on double occupancy see Recomendations. Please let us know of this request at the time of booking.

8.- However if you are unable to participate on this trek we can organize an alternative tour to visit Machu Picchu joining your group and utilising your train tickets and entrance, completing the tour as normal from Aguas Calientes (Day 3 Train to Aguas Calientes, Night in a Hostal, bus to Machu Picchu, Guided tour, Lunch at Aguas Calientes and Train return to Cusco.

9.- Change of dates is only possible if the group is still left with more than a minimum and the train tickets and Machu Picchu entrance have not been finalised. US$ 25.00 is charged.
Change of dates when train tickets have been finalised incurs a further fee as Peru rail also charges for changes of dates. This administration charge of US$20.00 per ticket in this case is incurred. At times a change of date may only be possible in an upgrade to a higher standard carriage and so the difference in price would need to be paid additionally.

10.- If you become ill or injured on the trail and are unable to continue, a porter and mule will be provided to accompany you back to an area with emergency assistance capabilities. Helicopter air lifts and medical assistance are paid at the expense of the passenger. If you fail to complete the tour due to illness we will assist you to meet with your group at Machupicchu to recommence your tour at that point. There will be no refund from the original payment, however we will prepare a document to certify illness which can be used to present to your travel insurance company.

11.- Our company will take all reasonable care in providing service to our clients to avoid accident, illness, loss of personal property and will only employ suitably qualified staff. We accept responsibility for the actions of our own employees. we cannot however be responsible for any action or event that was unavoidable. We also cannot be responsible for improper acts by clients or other third party. You are totally responsible for your own personal property and rented equipment.

12.- Our travel agancy does not take responsibility for additional costs due to unfavorable weather conditions, natural catastrophe, strikes, accidents, illness, injury, loss of personal items, etc. It is the clients responsibility to carry insurance to cover these types of events. We reserve the right to modify or cancel the program due to any of the unforeseen conditions listed above.
