Itinerary

Detailed Itinerary

Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Inti Punku – Cusco

We pick you up from your hotel at 6:00 am and travel through the Sacred Valley toward Ollantaytambo, one of the most important surviving Inca towns in Peru. After arriving at the trailhead, the hike begins with the crossing of an original Inca bridge, a remarkable remnant of the ancient road network built by the Incas.

From there, we begin the ascent along a well-preserved Inca trail that climbs gradually through spectacular Andean landscapes. As we gain elevation, you will see agricultural terraces, archaeological remains, and wide views of the Sacred Valley below.

Cachiccata Stone Quarries

One of the most fascinating parts of the route is the visit to the Cachiccata Stone Quarries. This site played a key role in the construction of Ollantaytambo, as it was here that enormous stones were cut and prepared before being transported across the valley.

Many unfinished stones still remain in the area, offering a unique opportunity to understand how the Incas organized one of the most extraordinary engineering projects in the Andes. Your guide will explain the historical significance of the quarries and how these massive stones were moved without modern machinery.

Inti Punku – The Sun Gate

After approximately three hours of uphill hiking, we reach Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, located high above the Sacred Valley. This impressive viewpoint is believed to have had ceremonial and strategic importance during Inca times.

From the top, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Urubamba River, the town of Ollantaytambo, the surrounding mountains, and the snow-covered Veronica peak. It is the perfect place to rest, take photos, and appreciate the beauty of the Andes.

Your guide will also share the historical and spiritual meaning of Inti Punku and its importance within the Inca world.

Box Lunch and Descent

After enjoying the summit, we stop for a delicious box lunch in the mountains. Once rested, we begin the descent toward the Cachiccata community, where our transportation will be waiting to take us back to Cusco.

We return to Cusco in the evening, arriving at approximately 6:00 pm.
