Itinerary
Detailed itinerary:
Cusco – Huchuy Qosqo – Cusco
We pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 7:00 am and drive northwest of the city for approximately one hour to the trailhead near Qoriccocha Lake, located at over 4,150 m / 13,500 ft.
From here, the hike begins through a beautiful high-Andean landscape surrounded by mountains, native vegetation, and open views of the countryside.
Tres Cruces Pass
After about one hour of hiking, we reach the Tres Cruces Pass, where you will enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. This is one of the most scenic points of the route and a great place to appreciate the vastness of the Andes.
Pukamarca and Puma Gate
From the pass, we continue along an original Inca Trail for approximately 50 minutes until we arrive at the archaeological remains of Pukamarca and the Puma Gate. These sites offer insight into the ancient network of paths and settlements that once connected important areas of the Inca world.
Arrival at Huchuy Qosqo
We then descend for about one more hour to reach the impressive archaeological site of Huchuy Qosqo. Upon arrival, we enjoy a delicious box lunch while taking in breathtaking views of the Sacred Valley and the Urubamba Mountain Range.
After lunch, we explore the site for approximately 40 minutes. During the visit, you will see three-story storehouses, temples, water channels, fountains, and agricultural terraces that reflect the advanced planning and engineering of the Incas.
Huchuy Qosqo was not only an important administrative center, but also a productive agricultural zone, especially for crops such as corn and potatoes. Its strategic location allowed the Incas to control and connect important areas of the Sacred Valley.
Descent to the Sacred Valley
Finally, we begin the descent into the Sacred Valley of the Incas, enjoying beautiful views of the Urubamba River and the valley below. At the end of the hike, our transportation will take us back to Cusco.
