Itinerary
Detailed itinerary:
Cusco – Ocongate – Singrenaccocha – Cusco
We pick you up from your hotel at 5:00 am and begin a scenic drive of approximately two hours to the town of Ocongate, where we stop briefly to stretch our legs and enjoy the surrounding views.
Drive to Yanaccocha and the Trailhead
From Ocongate, we continue driving for about 30 minutes to Yanaccocha, also known as the Black Lagoon. From there, we drive for another 30 minutes along a dusty and uneven road until we reach the trailhead.
Along the route, we pass several Andean communities and may observe local people with their herds of llamas and alpacas. With some luck, it is also possible to spot Andean condors, vicuñas, and other high-altitude bird species.
Upon arrival at the trailhead, we enjoy breakfast before beginning the excursion.
Viewpoint over the Lagoon
After breakfast, we begin a short walk of approximately 10 minutes to a scenic viewpoint overlooking a beautiful lagoon landscape. From this point, you can often see llamas, alpacas, and sheep roaming freely in their natural habitat.
Descent to Singrenaccocha Lagoon
From the viewpoint, we descend toward Singrenaccocha Lagoon. Here, you will have time to admire the cold crystal-clear waters while your guide explains the importance of the lagoon and the cultural significance of the surrounding mountains within the Andean worldview.
This quiet and rarely visited place is one of the most beautiful hidden lagoons in the region and offers a very different experience from the more crowded day hikes near Cusco.
Community Fish Farm and Local Experience
During the visit, we also stop at a local fish farm managed by the community, which adds a cultural and economic dimension to the experience and gives insight into local life in this remote mountain area.
Lunch and Optional Hot Springs
After exploring the lagoon, we return to our vehicle and drive to the Pampacancha community, where we enjoy lunch.
After lunch, there is an optional visit to the local hot springs, a relaxing way to end the excursion before returning to Cusco.
Return to Cusco
